Were you lucky enough to see the incredible scenes last night as the Aurora Borealis (more commonly known as the Northern Lights) were visible from our very town?
According to Wales Online (http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/northern-lights-amazing-pictures-aurora-8865029) a solar storm has been pushing the lights further south. The science of it goes completely over my head but oh my word was it beautiful! Unfortunately for myself I have only seen photos. If you happened to see them or managed to take any snaps then please let me know on facebook or in the comments here! I’m sure they’d be amazing to see!
Now, it took me a while to think of something that would really make this article worth writing. Of course the Northern Lights are big news anyway but since Wales Online already had that covered I really didn’t think I could compete. I first decided that I would take a look and see if this has ever happened before. What I actually found was quite startling.
I found no prior trace of the Aurora Borealis but that doesn’t mean that Aber has never seen strange lights in the sky…
According to UFO investigator Mark Olly, “Aberystwyth was buzzed by a strange flying craft, which hit trees, scattered shiny metal debris over four fields and flew off apparently unaffected.” All of this apparently happened in 1983. So famous is this incident in certain circles that Aber has become known as the “Roswell of Europe”.
Why then are we seemingly unaware of our reputation as a gateway to another world? Have we all been probed and had our memories erased? Are we so blinded by fear of the little green men that we ignore the signs? With sheep taking precedence over wheat it seems that the aliens will have to be more creative than crop circles… Maybe it is just the case that Aber’s residents live with a boring sense of rationality which has led to us completely ignoring the events of that dark winter’s night… So what do you think? Could there really have been a drunk-driving UFO above Aber or was it more likely someone making a bit of a racket as they fly-tipped their old washing machine?
It is incredible what you can find on the internet, you look for scientific beauty and come up with beautiful science fiction!
What next? Ghosts at Nanteos?
You might be interested to have a look at my partner’s videoed UFO sighting earlier this month just inland of Aberystwyth, over Llanbadarn Fawr, on this link;

Two nights before, he had taken two photos of the same lights. Luckily he saw them a second time; by then he had worked out how to use the video on his camera!
Any suggestions or knowledge from anyone as to what these are would be gratefully received.
